MustangList.com Knowledge Base .: 3 - Lists .: List Settings .: How do I fill out the List Settings?

How do I fill out the List Settings?

  1. If you have more than one List, choose the List you want to set up. You will need to fill out separate List Settings for each List.
  2. Go to Lists and click on List Settings.
  3. Enter the From email address in the field From Address 1. This is the email address that will appear in the From line when your subscribers receive your email. Whatever name and email address you choose, you want to make sure that it’s clear your company is sending the email (recipients are more likely to open email if they know the sender).
  4. You need to fill in at least one From Address field. There are two more fields for different From addresses (From Address 2 and 3) if you need them. You do not need to fill in all three From Address fields. If more than one person sends to the same email list you might use the other two From address fields. Or if you send more than one email publication to the same list and each publication has a different name and/or email address associated with it, you will want to enter these other From email addresses in the provided fields.
  5. It is recommended that you authenticate your From Address domain name with Domain Keys and SPF. Having these records will help your email deliverability and can also help your domain from being spoofed or forged. If Mustang List hosts your domain, this is set up for you. If Mustang List does not host your domain, then you need to consult with Mustang List or contact your service provider for assistance.
  6. Enter the Reply-To Address for each From address that you enter. This email address will be seen by your subscribers in the header of the email. Some email will go to this address (challenge emails and unsubscribe requests) so the address needs to be monitored; but you probably don’t want it to be your personal email address as it can fill quickly with meaningless mail.
  7. Choose the Default From/Reply-To Address Set. This is the set of addresses that will be automatically selected when you send a message to this List. If at the time of sending, you don’t want this Address set, you can choose one of your other addresses in the drop down menu provided on the sending page.
  8. Select the New Address Default Category. This is the Category that will be automatically selected when you add new subscribers on the Add or Edit Subscriber page (Subscribers/Add New Subscriber). If you wish to choose a different Category at the time of adding or editing a subscriber, you may select a different category from the drop down menu provided.
  9. Choose the Default Editor. The Full-featured HTML Editor will let you paste in your HTML or use the WYSIWIG interface to create an HTML email. The Text Editor will allow you to create a text-only message. Choose whichever is appropriate for the majority of the emails you intend to send. If you ever need to change the Editor in which you create emails, come back to List Settings to make the change by selecting a different Default Editor. If you don’t want the Default Editor to be permanently changed, you’ll have to change it back to your original setting after creating your email.
  10. In the field for CAN-SPAM information enter your company name and complete mailing address. CAN-SPAM laws require you to have this information on every email. This address cannot be a post office box.
  11. Choose your preferred Export Format: CSV or XML.
  12. Click Update List Settings to save your settings and/or changes.
