Insert Personalization Tags when you want to personalize an email message.
- Determine where in your email you would like the personalized data to appear.
- Scroll under the WYSIWIG box where you create your message to the section called Personalization Tags.
- You will see 7 fields, beginning with Email Address and ending with Custom Field 2 and next to these fields you will see a tiny bit of code: ##insert_email_here##, for example.
- Copy the code for the data that you want to appear in the email. For example, if you want the email address to appear in the email, you need to copy the code ##insert_email_here##.
- Paste this code where you want the data to appear in the email.
- If you would like to have a custom field other than custom field 1 or 2 appear in the email, use the format shown for Custom Field 1 and 2 but replace the number 1 or 2 to correspond with the number of the custom field containing the data you want to appear. For example, if your custom field 5 (text field 5) has the data you want to appear in the email, paste in the following code: ##insert_custom5_here##.
If you are using personalization tags in a greeting, be careful to word and punctuate the greeting in a way where if there is no data in the field, the greeting will still make sense. For instance, "Hello John," and "Hello," (if there is no data for first name) works whether or not you have the first name data.
When you preview your message and when you send a test message of your email to yourself, you will see the code for the personalization tags. You will view the data populating the code for the personalization tags when you send the actual email to email addresses in your subscriber database.
