Subscribers can use the Subscriber Update page to update their information in
the Mustang List system.
To use the Subscriber Update page you need to first set up
the Subscriber Update Options and then enable the page when you send a message.
This will put a link in your email message that subscribers can use to access
the page for updating their information.
- If you
have only one list, go to Lists and click Subscriber Update Options. If
you have more than one list, select the list for which you would like to
set up the Subscriber Update Options page. (Go to Lists/Select List and
select the list that you’re going to want to export. After the list is
selected, go to Lists/Subscriber Update Options as above.)
- After
clicking on Subscriber Update Options, the title at the top of the page
will say: Subscriber Update Options for “list name.”
- Fill
in the Lead-In Text. This is the text that will appear above the
instructions on the subscriber update page that the subscriber lands on
after clicking the link in the email.
- After
the Lead-In Text is the field for Email. For the most part, the option to
select here is “Displayed, editable, and required.” To email a subscriber,
you need an email address, so you’ll want to require this field; and you
normally want it to be editable so that your subscribers can update the
email address if it changes.
- After
the field for email is the option for Category. If you choose “displayed”
here, remember that all of the Categories you’ve set up that are active (but not private) will show. You’ll
want to double check the Categories you’ve set up in Mustang List to
ensure that you want them all to appear on the subscriber update page and
that the names you’ve given them are “subscriber friendly” as your
subscribers will see these names. If you don't want some categories to show, you'll have to make the categories private. (See KB article for setting up categories).
- Following
the field for Category are the default fields in Mustang List. Following
this will be any custom fields you’ve created in Mustang List.
- Each
of the fields shows a drop-down list with four options from which you must
select one:
- Not displayed—the field and information will not appear on the Subscriber Update Page.
- Displayed
but not editable—the field and information will appear on the subscriber
update page, but subscribers will not be able to edit it. You would
choose this option, for example, if you would like to display the date
the subscriber was added/subscribed to the email list (Date Added); you
should not let subscribers edit information such as the Date Added.
- Displayed
and editable—the field and information will appear on the subscriber
update page, and the subscriber can edit it.
- Displayed,
editable, and required— the field and information will appear on the
subscriber update page, the subscriber can edit it, and the field is
required. A message will appear letting the subscriber know that the
field is required if they attempt to submit the page with a required
field that is empty or invalid.
- You
must carefully select the appropriate option for each field. For example,
if you created a custom field for Notes and these notes are internal notes
(from sales calls, for example) you need to select Not Displayed.
Carefully look at your custom fields and your categories and think about
what information is subscriber friendly, what information should be
editable, and what information needs to remain undisplayed.
Subscribers
will access the Subscriber Update page by clicking on a link in the emails
you send. To put this link in the email you're sending, you need to enable the Subscriber
Update Page from the message sending page when you're sending a message.
- From
the Send Message page, click Advanced.
- After
clicking Advanced, more options will appear on the lower half of the page.
- Check
the box next to Subscriber Change Link.
After this box is selected, your subscribers will see a link
in the bottom of your email (“To update your subscriber information, click
here.”) for the Subscriber Update Page.
